  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Mexico legend Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez has officially joined Liga MX side Chivas, the club confirmed on Wednesday. Hernandez, who graduated from Chivas' youth system and then played for the club between 2006 to 2010, returned to his boyhood club after 14 years.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

    The official statement from the Mexican club on signing the veteran forward read, "Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez returns to the team of his love till the end of 2024. We are convinced that his love for the Institution, the experience acquired during his successful career and the leadership that characterizes him will be reflected in this new stage with Chivas."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    The 35-year-old former Mexico international spent the last three years at Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy. In June 2023, he suffered an ACL injury which cut short his stint with the American club. Since November last year, Hernandez has been a free agent.

    WHAT NEXT?

    Chivas did not have the ideal start to the new Liga MX season as they managed to pick up just one point from their first two games. They will be next seen in action on Saturday against Club Tijuana.
